Burns Church has a proud history of growth. For over a century and a half, people have gathered under the banner of this church, and have placed themselves willingly under the Lordship of Jesus. Their passion was to see themselves and their children rooted in faith and connected by community. Our challenge is to continue this legacy of faith.
As pastor, I can't remember the exact day when the thought occurred to me. But I do remember that it was a bright and sunny winter morning as I arrived at the church. As I walked into our church building, the first verse of Psalm 90 ran through my head: "Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations." Then it hit me: For literally hundreds and hundreds of people over a period of 157 years of proud history, Burns Church has been a place where people have met Jesus. It occurred to me that the bricks and mortar of the building were rather unimportant - especially when we remember that all the stone, mortar, and wood from the original church structure are long gone. That day, I heard God whisper a soft yet critical reminder in my ear: "I don't do buildings. I don't dwell in bricks and mortar. I dwell in people. And they dwell in me."
Here at Burns Church, we are learning what it means for the Living God to dwell in us...and for us to dwell in Him - 24/7/365. There is a growing voice in our church that is not content with just "doing" church. Burns Church is becoming a place where people are hungry to experience God in the everyday activities of our lives. A place where together we learn what it means to live our lives out fully and radically as the very dwelling places of God.
At Burns Church, we believe that something special happens when people come together to learn about and celebrate God. Barriers come down. Minds are opened. Hearts are softened. Hope is inspired. Lives are transformed. Joy is experienced. Fun and fellowship is done in community!
For over 157 years, we've been here - for individuals, families, students and children at every age and stage in life. Always serving one purpose: To Love Christ and to Share His Love. To help people come to know and experience Jesus Christ right in the middle of everyday life.
Whether you're already a part of our family or coming through our doors for the very first time, you'll find a place for learning, celebration and encouragement. A place for you.
